FAQs

How and when do consultations take place?

Consultations take place through an online medical form that you can complete whenever you want. Our doctors will then review the information and prescribe a treatment for you if appropriate and there are no contraindications.

Once you complete the payment of the consultation, our doctors will review your medical information.

Our doctors business hours are: Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm. If you need your prescription outside of business hours (Monday to Friday from 5pm to 9pm or Saturday & Sunday from 10am to 8pm), with an extra charge of 50€ (speedy service included).

What treatments do you prescribe through this service?

The first choice antibiotic to treat cystitis in Spain is Fosfomycin, which is the treatment we usually prescribe. But if needed, we can prescribe a different treatment.

How can I get the treatment prescribed?

You will receive your electronic prescription through email. No need to print it. You can then go to any pharmacy in Spain and show the QR code in your prescription. You will need to pay for the medication at the pharmacy.

How do I pay for the consultation?

Once you complete the medical form, and select whether you want the speedy service or not, you will be able to make your payment online through a secure payment gate. Your medical information will not be reviewed until the payment is complete.

What happens if the doctor can't prescribe a treatment for me?

If our doctor can't prescribe a treatment for you, we will issue a full refund. This can take some days to appear in your account.

I'm not a Spanish citizen. Can I still use your service?

Yes you can! You don't need to be a Spanish citizen to use our service. You will need to provide an ID number (such as your passport number) at the end of the medical form as this is required by the Spanish law to issue a prescription. You can provide your passport number.

What is a cystitis?

Cystitis is the inflammation of the urinary bladder. The most common cause of cystitis is a bacterial infection, which is relatively common in women.

In women, when this infection only affects the bladder, we consider it an uncomplicated urinary tract infection.

We can only treat women with uncomplicated urinary tract infection through our service.

In most cases, cystitis is caused by a bacteria called Escherichia coli (E. coli).

The bacteria responsible for cystitis generally come from the gut and travel to the urethra (the tube through which urine flows out from the bladder), finally reaching the bladder which causes the infection.

What are the symptoms of a cystitis?

In women, the symptoms of a cystitis can include:

  • Pain or burning when urinating (dysuria)

  • Frequent need to urinate, even in small amounts (pollakiuria)

  • Urgency to urinate

  • Cloudy or strong-smelling urine

  • Feeling of pressure or discomfort in the lower abdomen

When several of these symptoms are present, without any other added symptoms (such as fever, chills, vomiting, abnormal vaginal discharge, etc.), the chances of acute cystitis are very high.

Having a fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, flank pain, or abnormal vaginal discharge may indicate it's a more complicated infection or that the cause of the symptoms is different. If you have any of these symptoms, it's important that you see your doctor quickly and have a face-to-face consultation.

When should a cystitis be treated?

If there's a high suspicion of cystitis, based on the symptoms we mentioned, a treatment with antibiotics can be carried out. But if there are any other accompanying symptoms, additional tests (an analysis of the urine, an ultrasound, etc.) may be necessary before starting a treatment.

In most cases, antibiotic treatment can be carried out without performing a urine culture, since the bacteria most frequently causing cystitis in Spain are highly sensitive to the first choice antibiotics.

What is the antibiotic used to treat a cystitis?

The treatment of choice in uncomplicated cystitis in Spain is Fosfomycin, taken as a single dose. You will need a doctor's prescription to get it from the pharmacy.

Women usually notice a significant improvement in their symptoms very quickly: the discomfort usually decreases considerably or even disappears 2 to 3 days after taking the antibiotic.
